Dimensions is as inclusive as possible with publications information, with the belief that it should be in the users hands to be able to filter and limit their searches to specific pre-defined subsets of publications. The decisions of which groupings to use should of course be as informed as possible, and the information below is intended to aid this decision making.

The following journal lists are available as filters in Dimensions. Each list of journals is recognised as an independent grouping outside of Dimensions, and below each description you can find a link to the original information on an external website if you would like more information or background.

DOAJ

The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) is a community-curated online directory that indexes high quality, open access, peer-reviewed journals. The DOAJ journal list includes over 18k journal titles covering all areas of science, technology, medicine, social science and humanities.

ERA

ERA journal lists are designed for the sole purpose of supporting Australia's national research evaluation framework, Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA). The lists are not designed to be used outside of the ERA process or as a quality indicator for publishing outlets.

  • The ERA 2023 Journal List was released to eligible Australian universities in July 2022 to support their submission process. The list includes 26,246 journals.
  • The ERA 2018 Journal List was released to eligible Australian universities in August 2017 to support their submission process. The list includes over 25k journal titles.
  • The ERA 2015 Journal List includes journals that were eligible for institutions' ERA 2015 submissions. The list includes over 16k journal titles.

ERIH PLUS

Operated by the Norwegian Centre for Research Data (NSD), the main aim of ERIH (European Reference Index for the Humanities) is to enhance global visibility of high quality research in the humanities published in academic journals in various European languages all over Europe. The index enables researchers to better understand and promote the national and international importance of their research. All journals included in ERIH have to meet threshold standards for scholarly journals.

J-STAGE is an electronic journal platform for science and technology information in Japan, developed and managed by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). J-STAGE aims to accelerate the speed of communication and ensure the internationalization of the science and technology information published in Japan.

Nature Index journals

The Nature Index Journals are science journals which are included in the "Nature Index". The Nature Index is a database of author affiliation information collated from research articles published in an independently selected group of 82 high-quality science journals. The database is compiled by Nature Research.

Norwegian register

The Norwegian register, officially the "Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals, Series and Publishers", is operated jointly by the Norwegian Centre for Research Data (NSD) and the National Board of Scholarly Publishing (NPU). The list shows which scientific publications are recognized in the weighted funding model and includes around 30k source titles. The Norwegian register divides journals and series considered to meet scientific quality criteria into Level 1 and Level 2, where Level 2 is superior than Level 1. These scientific quality criteria include a valid ISSN, a scientific editorial board, and a peer-review process. Source titles which do not meet these criteria are identified as Level 0.

PubMed

PubMed is a search engine of the abstracts and references of life science and biomedical publications mainly sourced from MEDLINE, and maintained by the United States National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The PubMed filter in Dimensions filters to only publications which have a PubMed identifier (PMID), as used in PubMed.

SciELO

SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) is a platform for electronic publishing of scientific journals, with national focal points in 15 countries. From Latin America and the Caribbean, the following countries, with active national focal points, have journal collections in SciELO: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

UGC Journal List

Maintained by the Indian University Grants Commission - Consortium for Academic and Research Ethics (UGC-CARE), the UGC-CARE Reference List of Quality journals is now divided into two groups, instead of the original four groups to simplify the search process. These groups are not hierarchic or ranked:

  • UGC-CARE List Group I: Journals found qualified through UGC-CARE protocols
  • UGC-CARE List Group II: Journals indexed in globally recognised databases

Operated by the Centre for Research & Development Monitoring (Expertisecentrum Onderzoek en Ontwikkelingsmonitoring, ECOOM), the Flemish Academic Bibliography for the Social Sciences and Humanities (VABB-SHW) is a database of academic publications from the social sciences and humanities authored by researchers affiliated to Flemish universities. The full list of journals comprises both peer reviewed and not peer reviewed journals.
